County councillor’s report:

With the new lockdown restrictions we need to focus on the basics – Hands-Face-Space.  Unfortunately without the second lockdown there is a real concern that the NHS will simply be overwhelmed by patients with COVID-19.  If you have symptoms call 119 and get a test.  If you need help (including financial help) please call Norfolk County Council on 01603 223392 (option 5) or Broadland District Council on 01508 533933.  We are also entering flu season, which puts additional pressures on our NHS and unfortunately kills many people every year.  If you are over 65, or in a high risk group please contact your GP or pharmacy to book a flu vaccine, if you have not already been contacted.  If you are 50 to 64 there will be vaccines available from November and your GP will contact you to arrange appointments.

Norfolk County Council has been awarded Digital Council of the Year 2020.  NCC are working to extend full fibre by 2023 and up to 97% coverage in Norfolk over the next few years.  They have worked closely with mobile providers to provide council buildings (i.e. fire towers) and set up a protocol to allow quicker decision making, saving time and money for everyone.  Additionally they have set up the largest LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) in the UK.  This is free to use and will benefit many areas and save time and money.  One application has been the use of temperature sensors to indicate areas for gritting.  This will ultimately save a great deal of money and ensure gritters are targeted at areas with most need.

NCC Mobile Library starts back again

Mobile libraries

Our mobile libraries have now restarted. We have updated some routes – please see the information below for more details on specific routes. Please note the libraries will not visit playgroups and nursing homes yet.

Please read the following guidelines before visiting the mobile library.

  • You will be required to wear a face covering when you visit the mobile library
  • The mobile library will be operating on a one customer (or one household of up to 3 people) at a time basis to reduce the number of people inside
  • Please remember to bring your library card with you
  • We will ask you for your contact details for ‘test and trace’ purposes
  • Hand sanitiser will be available for use on the way in and out and surfaces that are commonly touched will be regularly wiped down
  • Returned items will be quarantined for up to 72 hours

We look forward to welcoming you back on board. Please bear with us if we run a little late due to limiting the number of people on the mobile library through the day.
