Suneli in Concert: a feast of song from the Republic of Georgia. St Lawrence’s, South Walsham, Saturday 16th May, 7 p.m.
Suneli is a Norwich-based choir that sings music from the Republic of Georgia. A group of some twenty singers from all over Norfolk, as well as Suffolk and Essex, we are united in our love of the thrilling polyphonic harmonies that make Georgian music unique. Our programme for this concert revolves around the seasons of the year, the cycle of life, and the traditions of the Georgian Orthodox Church. It reflects the regional variety within the country, from remote villages in the Caucasus mountains to lush lowlands; and we’ll be singing many genres, from ancient sacred songs and circle dance songs to modern day party songs; lullabies and laments; toasts, work songs and love songs.
Admission is free: there will be a retiring collection and all profits, after our costs are covered, will go to the charity Médecins sans Frontières. For more information, please visit www.stephanie-anderson.co.uk
